Lemons

 

YES - they contain a significant amount of vitamin C. But, They also contain rutin which has been shown to prevent fluid retention and strengthen veins.  Lemons are also potent detoxifiers and have significant antibiotic properties. To get the most juice out of a lemon soak in warm water for a few minutes. Or if using a juicer - wash the lemon well and put the whole fruit (including the peel) in the juicer to get the most nutritional benefit.

Another reason to avoid BPA

The FDA has banned this substance in baby bottles and "sippy" cups but what about the rest of us? A recent study found in JAMA shows an association with urinary concentrations and obesity in children and adults. In adults there was also a correlation with coronary artery disease. The best advise is to use glass or make sure your plastics say "BPA free".

This is a long band of tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh. It is associated with pain on the outside of the knee and/or hip. It is one of the leading causes knee pain in runners. Some of the reasons for pain in this area are: poor training habits, poor running form, and or weak hip muscles. Using a foam roller regularly can help prevent an irritated ITB.

A close relative to the mustard plant, arugula has been used to add a peppery spice to many salads. It is a good source of calcium for bone health, folate for fetal development, and lutein for eye health.  When picking out arugula a hint is that the deeper the color  the more cancer fighting carotenes.
